🎥 How to Use Flexible Metal Tack Strip

Flexible metal tack strip, also known as ply-grip, shark trim, or fabloc, is a must-have tool for upholsterers. This strip is designed to make blind tacking around both straight and curved areas, such as wings, much easier. If you are new to upholstery or have never used flexible metal tack strip before, don't worry! In this post, we will cover everything you need to know about using this essential tool.

Materials:

  • Flexible metal tack strip
  • 100gsm wadding
  • Gun stapler and staples
  • Regulator
  • Mallet
  1. Cutting the tack strip to the length you need, and then staple it onto the frame with the teeth facing outwards. Make sure to space out the staples evenly along the length of the tack strip.
  2. Once the tack strip is attached, use your thumb to press the teeth down until they are almost closed.
  3. Attach your wadding and trim about 1/2cm bigger than the edge of the tack strip.
  4. Place your fabric over the tack strip and trim about 1cm bigger than the edge of the tack strip.
  5. Use a regulator needle to tuck the fabric in between the teeth of the tack strip, using your thumb to press the teeth over the fabric. Make sure the fabric is pulled tight and evenly across the frame.
  6. Use a mallet to fully close all of the teeth of the tack strip.
